Washington, D.C. Fly-In

A 5:45 am flight from Kansas City to Washington, D.C., took community members to the nation's capitol by nine in the morning, so we could wait a few hours before having lunch with General Scott Rice, Director of the Air National Guard.

Having plenty of time, we took a bus tour of the city and stopped at Union Station before walking to National Guard headquarters for our first meeting of the day. After lunch and then stops for photo ops near the White House, we met with US Chamber of Commerce directors. (Yes, some snoozed. *Not Telling Who*)

Following the meetings, we had a long shuttle trip to our hotel in Alexandria, VA, amusing ourselves by Googling property prices for homes we saw along the way. After checking in to the Westin, we went to the Fish Marker for dinner. The après dinner bus-boarding spot was near an ice cream place. Enough said.

We were up early Wednesday for a meeting with Senator Roy Blunt and a session with folks from the United States Department of Agriculture. (Some snoozed here also. *yawn*) After lunch at the Dubliner in the heart of D.C., we met with Congressman Sam Graves and Senator Claire McCaskill.

We were delivered by shuttle to the airport for our 8 pm flight back to Kansas City.
